Owl Ascending Mala in Sterling

108 beads. One intention. A meditation in form. 

Owl Ascending is a carving born from stillness... from quiet summer nights spent nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains where the air cools at dusk and the world softens into shadow. I carved this owl in flight while listening to the wind move through those ancient trees, letting the wings take shape one feather at a time. From that original wax sculpture she was cast in solid sterling silver using the traditional lost-wax method, then patinaed and polished by hand until her presence felt both luminous and grounded. 

Her wings hold a sense of rising, an effortless lift, a guardian moving between light and shadow. When i hold this piece, she reminds me of intuition, protection and the way guidance can come quietly when we are willing to listen.

For this mala, I chose stones that echo her mystery and strength: black tourmaline for grounding and protection, luminous sugilite that glows from within, and moonstone with its soft, ethereal light. Each bead is hand selected and individually knotted on black silk. The traditional 108 beads are divided into four quadrants of 27, marked by sterling silver spacer beads adorned with granulation. A polished black tourmaline bead serves as the guru bead, creating a smooth, steady transition on the medallion so the strand and the focal point feel united. 

the mala completes with a handmade silk tassel, a gentle nod to the lineage of malas that inspired this modern expression. 

this piece may be worn as adornment, held during meditation or kept at your altar. My hope is that it feels like a companion... a prescence that steadies you and reminds your that you are guided.
